We need YOU on our Reader Advisory Board!
We're looking for a few good people to help us make System iNEWS magazine even better. We'd like to find six ProVIP readers of the magazine who would be willing to serve on a review board for six months (March-August 2008). If you sign on, your job will be to provide feedback on six issues of System iNEWS. You can tell us what you like and don't like and why by filling out a simple online survey.
To show our appreciation to those selected for the board, we'll include your name on our masthead and treat you to an Amazon gift certificate.
Please contact Vicki Hamende TODAY if you're interested.

As we continue to welcome 2008 with our first full week of NEWS Daily, we're introducing a few changes -- the first of which is our Tuesday edition. Today's issue, as well as future Tuesday issues of NEWS Daily, will be entirely focused on Bob Cozzi's Tuesday Tips. Enjoy!

Last Week to Take Our Annual Reader Survey
We rely on feedback from readers like you to make System iNEWS and System iNetwork as responsive as possible to your information needs. One of the best ways to hear from you is through our annual Reader Survey. If you complete the survey by April 30, you will be entered in a drawing for a Nintendo Wii, Apple iPod, Bose SoundDeck, or an equivalent value in an Amazon.com gift certificate! Please take our annual reader survey by April 30.

As is our tradition, we're taking our annual holiday from serious news to deliver you a foolish newsletter in honor of April Fool's Day on Sunday. Remember, all content in today's newsletter is to be read strictly with tongue in cheek.

Take a Chance at a Wii
This is the last week to take our Shop Profile Survey and earn a chance at a Nintento Wii. So far, none of the 489 respondents have said they have used a System i for fewer than two years, and fully half have used an IBM midrange box for more than 20 years. If you are not one of the 489 who has already completed the survey, please do so this week on our website. Sunday, April 1, is your last day to become eligible for the Wii. Don't miss out!

Take Our Survey For a Chance to Win a Nintendo Wii
Although itรขโฌโขs early on in our System i Shop Profile survey (it runs through March), so far it appears that there are very few new System i shops. Forty-seven percent have used IBM midrange systems for more than 20 years, 37 percent for 11 to 20 years, and 16 percent for 6 to 10 years. Help us build an accurate profile of the System i community. Take the survey and earn a chance to win a Nintendo Wii.

Tell Your Story
In Wednesday's NEWS Daily, you could see the occasional piece written by a reader who works everyday in the trenches. If you have a funny System i tale to tell or an opinion about an issue in the System i market, send me a quick note and we'll chat about running it in the newsletter. So if you need to digress, let me know at rsanders@pentontech.com.
January 09, 2007
Do You Have a Question?
A new, occasional feature we're introducing in Tuesday's NEWS Daily is Ask the Author/Ask IBM. If you have a question about one of the articles in NEWS Daily, in System iNEWS magazine, or on System iNetwork, don't hesitate to send it to me and I'll try my best to get it answered. Perhaps you need clarification on some code in the magazine or want to know more about a news issue. Similarly, if there's a question you've been dying to ask IBM but haven't determined who to ask, send it our way and we'll choose one or two each month to take to IBM for an answer. So don't delay รขโฌโ send your questions (and any feedback) to rsanders@pentontech.com.

Introducing NEWS Daily รขโฌโ Your Daily Source for System i News
We hope you like our new format, refreshed name, and some of the new content we'll be providing in the coming weeks. We've packed the newsletter with old favorites like the Out of Context quote of the day, but also intend to add a little something extra to news reports on topics that matter to the System i community. Keeping a watchful eye on System i happenings, editors Chris Maxcer, Rita-Lyn Sanders, and John Ghrist sort through the clutter and deliver critical news developments to your inbox in a timely manner and with a little bit of attitude. We've also gone daily (Monday through Friday, that is) with the addition of a Friday newsletter that will link you to a brief podcast covering the news highlights from the week. We're also looking for reader feedback, of course, and ask that you let us know what you think about the new newsletter: rsanders@pentontech.com.

See You Next Year!
We're taking a holiday break, but we'll be back in your inbox on January 3rd. Until then, enjoy the season! Not too long into the New Year, we'll be launching a redesigned newsletter dedicated to letting you know what's going on in the System i community.
Cheers! Chris Maxcer and Rita-Lyn Sanders

New Team takes over NEWS Wire Daily Leadership
NEWS Wire Daily has gone back to its roots and dug up a new leadership team. With the departure of long-time news editor Cheryl Ross, SystemiNetwork.com has tapped Chris Maxcer to be news editor and Rita-Lyn Sanders to be senior industry editor. The duo will track down the important news and insight you want for System iNEWS, NEWS Wire Daily, and SystemiNetwork.com.
Chris, who happens to be the guy who created the very first รขโฌลNEWSWire/400รขโฌย e-mail newsletter back in 1996, has more recently been making regular contributions to System iNEWS magazine by analyzing and commenting on trends in the System i market for his monthly Industry Report column. If you donรขโฌโขt recognize his last name, he recently changed it from Miller so that he could lay claim to a more unique perspective on the world (and avoid cases of mistaken identity). Besides, why let the name-changing System i have all the fun.
Rita-Lyn has years of iSeries-i5 writing experience and has written hundreds of articles for other Penton Media publications. Her new focus is aimed at putting together a fresh blast of industry content you canรขโฌโขt afford to miss. Watch for upcoming changes to this newsletter and f.y.iSystem in our print magazine. If there are any subjects youรขโฌโขre particularly interested in learning more about, now is the perfect time to holler by sending a note to rsanders@pentontech.com.
We look forward to hearing from you!

Thanks for Nine Great Years!
This is my last issue as editor of NEWS Wire Daily. After a lot of soul-searching, I've decided to embark on an entirely new career in an unrelated field. However, I've grown to love the AS/400 (or iSeries, or System i, or whatever you want to call it) and its loyal fans, so I'll more than likely contribute an article to NEWS Wire Daily every now and then. Meanwhile, I leave you in the very capable hands of Rita-Lyn Sanders and Chris Maxcer, who've each spent many years writing about the System i and its previous incarnations.
Best Wishes to You All,
Cheryl Ross, Senior News Editor

Welcome to the System iNetwork!
There's just one problem with tying the name of our publication to the name of IBM's midrange product line: It means we have to change our name just as often as IBM rechristens the System Previously Known as AS/400. This week, iSeries Network becomes System iNetwork. You'll find us online at systeminetwork.com.
