IBM is making its largest solid state disk drive available across the entire Power i range and Symtrax has improved its ERP document editing tool.

Symtrax has released a new 4.11 version of Compleo Layout, its solution for to modernising and redesigning i-based ERP application output documents. Compleo Layout lets users change PDF layout and text properties without the need for editing tools. Users can add images, watermarks and time stamps to PDFs as well as calculations and business information from external data sources.

New features include the ability to define the position of document elements to handle dynamic spool content, 2D barcodes, repetitive formatting on several rows and a function to add tables and formatting conditions to spool text.

IBM has extended the availability of the new 177 GB SSDs it introduced earlier this year for its top-of-the-range 795s in the 12X PCIe I/O Drawer.

The 177 GB SSD provides 2.5 times more capacity per drive than the 69 GB SSD and can now be used with the 710, 720, 730, 740, 750, 755, 770 and 780. It will also work with POWER6-driven 520, 550, 560, 570, and 595 models. Big Blue says that the 177 GB drive provides a much improved cost per gigabyte and requires a smaller number of SAS bays for the same number of GBs. A few SSDs may reduce the need for many HDDs, saving rack space, I/O drawers, maintenance and energy.

IBM has also announced that it won't be pulling its 7402-CR6 rack-mounted Hardware Management Controller (HMC) this month, as originally planned. The unit will now be available until June 2012.
