I received the following message from a reader:

This comment is in regard to Tool to Start OpenSSH Server [article ID 58570 at SystemiNetwork.com]. I downloaded the save file attached to IBM Document 504545174 and found that the STRENDSSHD command functions only to start the OpenSSH server. When attempting to end the server, I get an "environment variable not found" error. I thought you would want to know this and publish this information.

Thanks for the comment. I hadn't tried using that utility to end the SSH server until receiving your message. I tried it, and I get the same error that you do. There doesn't appear to be any way to work around it, aside from ending the SSH server by using a different method.

Because this utility was published by IBM (not me) and published without source code, I'm unable to fix the problem. IBM provides the utility "as-is," so you can't report it to IBM as a bug, either. That's really too bad, because I suspect this is an obvious bug that would require very little effort to fix, but since I don't know who wrote it, and since I can't report it via official channels, there's not much I can do.

Maybe someone at IBM will see this article and fix the problem?

In the meantime, I still recommend this tool as a great way to start the SSH server. But you'll have to find another way to end the SSH server.
