IBM Set to Withdraw IBM i 5.4 September 2013
Date Posted: February 08, 2012 05:13 PM

IBM announced a biggie: it has set the official withdrawal date for IBM i 5.4. IBM will no longer support version 5.4 of the operating system after September 30, 2013, effectively granting users of it nearly 20 months to upgrade their systems. That means shops still running i 5.4 have less than two years to upgrade to release 6.1 or 7.1 and complete the program conversion.

In U.S. Announcement 912-011, IBM lists all its products associated with version 5.4 of IBM i that it also will no longer support. The announcement also mentions an upcoming fee-based extended service offering for 5.4, which IBM intends to announce in the future.

If you haven't planned for an upgrade to a newer release of IBM i, check out "Get Off the Island: Plenty of Good Reasons to Upgrade Your OS," from the January 2010 issue of System iNEWS.
